On Friday, 14 March 2025, the Fiona Wood Foundation team gathered at HQ, joining over 600 inspiring women and men for the inaugural AIM WA International Women’s Day Luncheon.
Fiona was a keynote speaker at the event, where she delivered a powerful message about what #MarchForward means to her. She shared
“I was one of twelve women in my year, and people said, ‘You can’t do that — women don’t do surgery.’ So my standard answer became, ‘Well, I’m really good at embroidery — does it help?’ And I walked on by. If somebody says, ‘You can’t do that,’ without engaging, helping, or offering a solution, just walk on by. Don’t waste your precious breath or your precious time.”
In a moving moment during the luncheon, Fiona invited Megan Basioloi, a survivor of the 2002 Bali Bombings, to share her story. Megan spoke with honesty and strength about survival and resilience, reminding us of the impact of kindness — and how, even in our darkest moments, it’s often the compassion of others that stays with us the longest. Her story was a heartfelt reminder that resilience and growth aren’t endpoints, but ongoing journeys we must continue to nurture and embrace.
