Burn Patient & Carers Advisory Breakfast Event

The Fiona Wood Foundation, in collaboration with the Western Australian Health Translation Network’s Consumer and Community Involvement Program, recently hosted the Burn Patient & Carers Advisory Breakfast at the Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research in Perth.

Held on 31 July 2025, the breakfast brought together members of our burn family, including patients, carers, and those who have supported a loved one throughout their recovery journey, along with researchers, to discuss research priorities, emerging needs, and opportunities for continued involvement.

Participants were invited to reflect on a number of key questions, including:

  • What should be the immediate priorities for burns research?
  • What has helped most during recovery, and where are there still gaps in support or services?
  • How connected do survivors feel to the Fiona Wood Foundation?
  • What would make continued involvement in research meaningful and worthwhile?

The conversation offered valuable insight into current experiences of care and provided important direction for future engagement with people who have experienced burn injury. A summary of the insights shared during the session is now available. To view the report, please click here

The session also included presentations from Dr. Andrew Stevenson, Dr Lucy Barrett, Dr Ann-Maree Vallance, and Dr Blair Johnson, who shared information about their current research projects and the opportunities available to get involved through our Research Buddy Program.

We would like to thank everyone who RSVP’d their interest, those who were able to attend and contribute on the day, and our event partners, the Western Australian Health Translation Network’s Consumer and Community Involvement Program, for their efforts in helping to make the event such a success.
