Join our burn research community
We want you to know how valuable your participation is
At the Fiona Wood Foundation, people are at the heart of everything we do. When people think of burn research, they often picture scientists, doctors, or patients with lived experience. But there is another essential group — our control group participants.
As a control group participant, you play a vital role in our research by providing a clear point of comparison as someone without a burn injury. In scientific studies, a control group refers to participants who are not exposed to the treatment being tested — known as the independent variable. In our work, your involvement helps us identify which physical, psychological, or physiological responses are specific to burn injuries — and just as importantly, which are not.
By generously contributing your time and insights, you make it possible for us to translate scientific and clinical discoveries into innovative treatments for healing burns and reducing scarring. Your involvement plays a direct role in helping us improve care and outcomes for people affected by burn injuries.
Your involvement truly makes a difference. On behalf of Fiona, our research team, patients, and their families — thank you.
