Join our burn research community

We want you to know how valuable your participation is

At the Fiona Wood Foundation, people are at the centre of everything we do. When we talk about burns research, people often think of scientists, doctors, or patients with lived experience. But there’s another important group we rely on — our control groups which include children and young people, like yours, who help us by taking part in our studies.

If your child is part of our control group, they’re not receiving a treatment or intervention. Instead, they help us understand what is typical or expected in children who have not had a burn injury. This gives our researchers a reliable point of comparison, helping them understand which physical, psychological, or physiological changes are the result of burn injuries — and which are not. This comparison is a key part of making our research accurate, meaningful, and useful.

By giving their time — and with your support — your child is helping our team turn research into better treatments for children and adults recovering from burns. This includes finding ways to improve healing and reduce scarring, both physically and emotionally.

Your child’s involvement truly makes a difference. On behalf of Fiona, our researchers, patients, and their families — thank you.
