The Foundation receives support from the PCHF for the Stan Perron Centre of Excellence in Childhood Burns at Perth Children’s Hospital.
The vision for the Centre of Excellence in Childhood Burns is to be a world leading centre where innovation and best practice are promoted and supported, providing leadership in research and education related to burn injury, from prevention and acute care to enhancing lifelong recovery.
Led by Professor Fiona Wood AM, the Centre will drive and support clinical excellence, research, education and community engagement. Every child and family will have the opportunity to be involved in the journey, discovering the underlying mechanisms of burn injury response and driving new therapies. The Centre will promote staff development, training and exchange to share ideas and expand clinical knowledge to continually adapt and improve clinical care. Research will be integrated into the clinic, providing evidence and new knowledge to inform clinical practice and decision making. Education and community engagement will focus on prevention and first aid in the knowledge that both of these are critical to reducing the burden of burns in our society.
The Centre will collaborate widely whilst remaining focused on the mission of improving the lives of children unfortunate enough to suffer a burn injury.
We are proud of our association with PCHF, the Stan Perron Charitable Foundation, WA Firefighters, and the National Fire Industry Association who support PCHF and the Paediatric Burns Unit.

The Fiona Wood Foundation has been included in the 2022 Telethon list of beneficiaries.
With the support of telethon funding, we are contributing to the ORIGINS project and two other key projects; a high-tech scar assessment tool and a new information campaign. These projects are aimed to improve the psychological and physical well-being of children and young people during their burn journey.
Technology Innovation: A high-tech scar assessment tool will be used during burn treatments. This scanning technology maps the skin's surface and provides the burns team with valuable critical information that shows if the burn is responding to treatment. This understanding will allow us to improve patient outcomes and recovery.
Education Initiative: We are partnering with child and adolescent psychiatry specialist Professor Helen Milroy to create an information campaign that includes animations and videos that address the psycho-social issues children face throughout their burn journey.
Telethon raises funds to support various WA charities to transform the lives of sick, disadvantaged and vulnerable children. Thanks to the generosity of West Australians, we can continue our research and education efforts to ensure that we reach our vision of scarless healing in mind and body.
