Western Australian paediatric burns research is in the international spotlight, with a landmark study featured on the cover of the June 2026 issue of the European Burn Journal.

Western Australian paediatric burns research is in the international spotlight, with a 10-year study featured on the cover of the June 2026 issue of the European Burn Journal.

The study, Hand Involvement and Its Association with Burn Characteristics, Surgical Management, and Length of Stay in Paediatric Inpatients, examined admissions to the Paediatric Burns Service of Western Australia between July 2012 and June 2022.

The research was co-authored by Lachlan Madge, Lisa Martin, Emma Mill, Fiona Wood and Tiffany Grisbrook, bringing together expertise from the Fiona Wood Foundation, The University of Western Australia, Curtin University, The Kids Research Institute and Perth Children’s Hospital.

Selection as the cover story of the European Burn Journal recognises the significance of this Western Australian research and the strength of collaboration across research, clinical care and education.

By bringing together researchers, clinicians, hospitals and universities, this study helps expand the body of knowledge and supports the translation of research into better care for children and families whose lives have been touched by burn injury.
