The Fiona Wood Foundation (FWF) was honoured to be welcomed to Government House, Western Australia, on 8 April 2025 for a special reception recognising the Foundation’s achievements and future aspirations.
Hosted by His Excellency the Honourable Chris Dawson AC APM, Governor of Western Australia, the reception brought together members of our research community, collaborators and supporters to reflect on advances in burn care and the importance of ongoing research.
A particularly meaningful part of the evening was hearing from Kevin Fuchsbichler, who shared his lived experience of burn injury and recovery on the eve of his 20th burn anniversary.
Following a serious burn injury sustained on his farm in Bruce Rock, Kevin received initial care from local nurses before being transferred by the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) to Royal Perth Hospital (RPH), where he came under the care of Fiona and the Burns Service of Western Australia.
Kevin spoke warmly of the healthcare professionals, researchers and supporters who contributed to his care and recovery, offering a personal reminder of the difference that advances in burn research can make.
Fiona also addressed guests, reflecting on the Foundation’s achievements and the importance of continued research into the long-term impacts of burn injury.
We extend our sincere appreciation to His Excellency the Governor and Government House for hosting this special occasion and recognising the work of the FWF and the many people contributing to world-leading research that translates into better clinical care and outcomes for people with burn injuries.
